Gronkowski was carted off the field midway through the third quarter of the team's Week 14 home game against Cleveland with a right knee injury. Gronkowski took a hit to the lower leg from Browns safety T.J. Ward after catching a 21-yard pass down the seam. Ward delivered the blow with his helmet.

Gronkowski, recovering from mutliple offseason forearm surgeries and continued problems with his back, was playing in just his seventh game of the season, not seeing his first action until Week 7.  The Patriots, who will be in the playoffs as the AFC East champions, were down 12-0 at home to the Browns at the time of his injury.
New England, down 19-3 in the second quarter, came back to beat the Browns, 27-26. Brady found Julian Adelman for a 2-yard score, then converted a 2-point conversion pass to Danny Amendola.
